How is boxing affected by Covid-19 pandemic? (Part 2)

Boxing does not have a tournament, there is no system for ranking players. It operates in a very primitive way. The punches challenge each other, the winner has money to bring back, the loser is empty-handed (although sometimes there are cases where the punch-losing person still has money). “All the fighters need is money, not a health report,” the Independent wrote.

Boxing has up to 4 management agencies including WBA (World Boxing Association), WBC (World Boxing Council), IBF (International Boxing Federation) and WBO (World Boxing Organization). Representatives of these four agencies never accept to sit together to elect a top management and they also do not agree that there will be only one champion.

The existence of WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO is simply making money. The organizers will host their own championship matches to call for sponsors, sell tickets, collect money, and award prizes to the winners. All 4 agencies have their own rules. The only thing they have in common is that they don’t have a long-term management plan. In weight classes, the world will always have 4 champions.

Tris Dixon, editor of Boxing News, wrote: “It never will be possible for these 4 organizations to sit together to come to an agreement. Because simply every organization has its own piece of cake and they are all living well with it so no one will share any one. ”

The fighters themselves have no need to change anything. “The fighters keep fighting, getting money and that’s enough. They don’t need to be a champion of a tournament, because their ultimate goal is always money, ”added British journalist Frank Warren.

Famous handler Amir Khan said that he himself and many other hands do not understand how the management mechanism operates. So whenever they had money, they would go to the floor, and Covid-19 would look after it.
