UFC is having a hard time due to Covid-19

UFC is having a hard time organizing the event because their fighters are continuously attacked by Covid-19.

As expected, Pedro Munhoz will stand at UFC Fight Night 172 on July 16. The opponent of Brazilian boxers is Frankie Edgar. However, the UFC has confirmed that Pedro Munhoz has been positive for Covid-19 and has never returned.

Pedro Munhoz has Covid-19

The UFC is currently looking for an alternative and the match with Frankie Edgar on July 16 will continue as usual. However, with too much time and the mandatory requirements of medical examination, it is possible that Edgar’s debut in the chicken weight class (53 – 55 kg) will have to be rescheduled.

Pedro Munhoz (18-4-1 MMA) is a 7th ranked fighter in the UFC chicken rankings. The Brazilian puncher has been blocked from a 3-match winning streak when facing Aljamain Sterling at UFC 238. With the forced withdrawal from UFC Fight Night 172, Munhoz’s time to return to the championship race will be greatly interrupted.

UFC Fight Night 172 currently has 8 matches scheduled, the match is the confrontation between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige in featherweight class (61-66 kg).

There have been 4 matches canceled or affected because of Covid-19, besides the Battle of Munhoz – Edgar there are also matches Vinicius Moreira – Modestas Bukauskas, Anderson dos Santos – Jack Shore and Carla Esparza – Marina Rodriguez.

In addition to Munhoz, Moreira, along with Dos Santos, were infected with Covid-19, causing the matches with these fighters to change. A coach of Marina Rodriguez was positive for the virus so although Marina was not positive, UFC had to move this match to another event.

Before Pedro Munhoz, another Brazilian boxer Gilbert Burns was also positive for Covid-19 and withdrew from the title match at the imminent UFC 251. So, the players attending the upcoming martial arts events are very worried. UFC President Dana White has not yet commented on the incident.

The second time he revealed his intention to join WWE right after announcing his retirement from the MMA world, surely, many viewers were wondering if this would be another decision of Conor to roam, or continue to be just a how to make an Irish boxer grab the attention of the martial arts community

Why is Boxing harder to play than MMA? (Part 3)

What about MMA?

Even in Europe, there are still some countries like France that do not accept professional MMA. Right in the US – “home of UFC“, the ban on MMA in New York was only lifted last year.

Asia – where the OneChampionship tournament is taking place, the expansion of the tournament market is still at a standstill in many countries, even though these are already established facilities and MMA practitioners. Africa – although there have been many successful countries in Boxing but still in the “learning” about MMA.

The paradox of choice

There is a famous paradox that is “the paradox of choice”. That means when you have so many options, you won’t know what to choose. This explains why when people are too free, people often get bored.

Or it can also be understood that if you have too many pairs of shoes, you will not know which ones you need to choose to go out. Likewise, MMA has too many options so that the boxer gets stuck in the development of skills.

In MMA, when facing a punch, you can wrestle, you can kick as well as can counter it with another punch. But because of that, you fall into a state of “how to counter that punch?”

To capture cards of Manny Pacquiao, Manuel Marquez had to resort to click-only tactics without hitting. Of course these feint moves are harmless, Nonetheless, they are key to Marquez’s KO victory over Pacquiao.

MMA can be compared to a problem of many unknowns with many different systems of equations. To solve such a system of equations with many unknowns, sometimes you just need to find a single unknown.

Just like to defeat Khabib, you just need to get past his wrestling skills. Obviously, so far, no one has been able to do that, but you’ve mastered the most basic concept of tactics to defeat Khabib.

In Boxing, you only need to search for only one unknown number, but that unknown comes with a complicated problem. To solve the “find x” Boxing problem, you have to create a complex system of equations with “assumptions” to then gradually eliminate and eventually arrive at the solution stage. Boxing is a simple subject to the complexity.
